Ireland facing EC legal case over driver training

The European Commission is to bring a case against Ireland for what it says is the Government's failure to implement a directive on training of professional drivers.

The 2003 directive aims to ensure minimum standards of training for drivers of certain buses and heavy goods vehicles.

All EU member states had until September 10 last year to bring the directive into national law, but the EC says no measures have been taken in Ireland to comply with the directive.
