Govt accused of using media monitoring to silence critics
28/11/2007 - 12:23:34A row has broken out in the Dáil between the Taoiseach and the Labour Party leader over the use of the Government's media monitoring unit.
The office monitors radio, TV and newspaper coverage of daily events and developments, providing the information to various ministers.
Labour leader Eamon Gilmore today accused Bertie Ahern of using the unit to silence critics of the Government.
Mr Ahern, however, accused him of making a slur against civil servants.
