Man remanded in custody over gun attack in Dublin

Two men were remanded in custody today in connection with a gun attack on a house and threatening gardaí.

David and Daniel Kavanagh of Cherry Orchard Crescent, West Dublin appeared before Kilmainham district court each charged with possession of a firearm.

It related to an incident in the early hours of Saturday morning in which shots were fired at a house in Cherry Orchard Parade, west Dublin and gardaí were threatened at gunpoint.

Both men were remanded in custody to appear before Cloverhill District Court on Thursday November 15.

Detective Sergeant Denis Smith of Ballyfermot Garda Station said David was arrested and charged at 8.25pm yesterday. His reply after being cautioned was: “Sorry about everything.”

Proceedings were interrupted after a fracas broke out in the court involving the defendant and members of the public which was brought under control by Gardaí.

His solicitor later told the court that he worked as an apprentice plumber earning €350 per week, €50 of which he gives to his mother. He was granted legal aid.

Detective Sergeant Smith also told the court that Daniel was arrested and charged yesterday at 8.30pm. After being cautioned he replied: “No.” He was also granted free legal aid. Neither defendant made an application for bail. Both men were dressed in red jumpers and dark blue jeans.
