40% of drinkers blame themselves for alcohol problem

Forty per cent of adults drinkers blame themselves for Ireland's problems with alcohol abuse, according to a survey commissioned by the drinks industry.

The Drinks Industry Group of Ireland says 23% of respondents blamed parents for the problem, and almost one-quarter blame young people.

Just 19% point the finger at pubs and off-licences and 11% apportion blame to advertisements for alcohol.

When asked what they thought the solution was, more than one-quarter said education in schools, while roughly the same percentage said stricter law enforcement.
