ISEQ up at market close

The ISEQ-index of Irish shares experienced a surge this afternoon up 36.78 points to 7165.47.

The financial big guns performed well with AIB soaring an impressive 50c to €15.30. Bank of Ireland didn't do as well up a mere 4c to €10.37 with Irish Life and Permanent gaining a modest 6c to €14.26. Anglo Irish Bank bucked the positive trend falling 14c to €10.06.

The upward swing was fuelled mainly by the construction sector with CRH leading the way jumping 60c to €25. Grafton also ended the day on a positive note up 16c to €6.95. Kingspan, however experienced a loss of 39c to €14.02 as did McInerney down 10c to €1.28.

Elsewhere bookmakers Paddy Power enjoyed a 40c rise to €27 by end of trading this evening.
