Don't ignore Bin Laden, warns Bush

01/11/2007 - 18:04:25
US President George Bush today warned the world not to ignore the words of Osama bin Laden in the fight against global terrorism.

He said the al-Qaida terror mastermind had made his intentions to stage another attack “as clear as Lenin and Hitler”.

Speaking at the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think-tank in Washington, Mr Bush said the US must keep up pressure on the terrorists “until this threat to civilisation has been removed”.

He said, six years on, that he would never forget the attacks of September 11 and accused some members of Congress of forgetting America was at war.

“We are at war and we cannot win this war by wishing it away or pretending that it does not exist,” he said.

He used the speech to urge the Senate to confirm the embattled nomination of Michael Mukasey as Attorney General.

The President defended the former judge’s refusal to say whether he considers waterboarding as illegal torture.
