King hoping for Katchit improvement

01/11/2007 - 09:00:59
Alan King was delighted to see Katchit extend his winning run over hurdles at Aintree – but admits the pocket-sized four-year-old will need to improve if he is to put his elders to the sword.

Having won eight times from nine starts over timber, last season’s Triumph Hurdle winner is as short as 5-1 with a host of bookmakers for the Champion Hurdle in March.

However, King is keen not to get too carried away ahead of Katchit’s acid test in the WBX.com “Fighting Fifth” Hurdle at Newcastle on December 1.

King said: “He’s come out of it very well and he was turned out on Monday morning. I was really pleased with him as it was a real tough performance.

“He’ll come on for the run, as all of mine have, and he had a good blow afterwards but the big test is going to be when he takes on the older horses in the ’Fighting Fifth’,” he told Racing UK.

“I think he’s got a fair way to go yet as he needs to improve again.

“Hopefully there is a little bit more to come so it’ll be interesting up at Newcastle.”
