Hourigan banks on Hennessy hope
Michael Hourigan is considering the £150,000 (€215,923) Hennessy Cognac Gold Cup as a potential target for impressive recent winner Mossbank.
The seven-year-old proved too strong for his rivals in the Ladbrokes-sponsored Limerick National over three miles in October – but has taken a subsequent hike in the handicap.
Hourigan said: “I may run Mossbank in the Hennessy at Newbury at the end of the month.
“The handicapper jumped him up a stone for just two and a half lengths, which I t hought was a lot of weight to give a horse for the rest of the season.
“We’ll see nearer the time (whether he goes) but he’s a horse we won’t run too many times this year as he’s better when he’s fresh,” he told At The Races.
Mossbank appeared with 14 other Irish-trained horses in an 86-strong entry list for Newbury’s showpiece handicap on Wednesday.
