Irish firms eye Euro business awards

Up to 15 Irish firms are in the running for the prestigious 2008 European Business Awards, to be announced in March.

The EU-wide competition attracted more than 300 entries from all 27 member states.

The winners will be selected by a 25-member judging panel of executives, academics and newspaper editors.

Awards will be presented in a total of seven categories including Business of the Year, Entrepreneur of the Year and Business Innovation of the Year.

A shortlist of finalists will be announced next month and the final winners will be announced in Paris on March 11.

The finalists will be given an opportunity to make presentations to the judging panel in January before the final adjudication process.

A spokeswoman for the awards said: "The entries include up to 15 Irish firms among the 300 we received."

The closing date for entries passed on October 18.

The awards are open to any organisation which is headquartered in EU member states.

The categories are open to enterprises of any size or sector, including public sector organisations.

The awards recognises and celebrates business success, innovation and ethical practice.
