Junior doctors consider industrial action at Beaumont

10/10/2007 - 08:21:53
Junior doctors are considering industrial action at one of the country's busiest hospitals as part of a dispute over emergency cover.

Management at Beaumont Hospital has indicated that non-consultant doctors will only be paid for a limited amount of cover as part of HSE cutbacks.

The Irish Medical Organisation, which represents the doctors, says the move flies in the face of a national agreement brokered by the Labour Relations Commission in 2002.

That deal stated that hospitals would not interfere unilaterally with rosters and emergency on-call cover for NCHDs.
