Meehan ponders plan for Rocks
Brian Meehan is mulling his options with Red Rocks as preparations for a repeat bid in the Breeders' Cup Turf gradually gather momentum.
Successful last season at Churchill Downs, the Galileo colt once again has the 12-furlong event as his principal end-of-season target.
Meehan’s charge, who has not been seen since finishing fourth behind Manduro at Royal Ascot, could enjoy a prep race at some point – although no firm decisions have yet been made.
“We wouldn’t necessarily go straight to the Breeders’ Cup. We’ll play it by ear as his work is very good at the moment,” explained the Manton handler.
“But he’s not quite there yet – maybe in another two or three weeks he’ll be there. The Irish Champion I’d doubt and I wouldn’t have any concerns about taking him straight to the Breeders’ Cup,” he told Racing UK.
“But we went through that with David Junior last year and we’ll probably do something with him beforehand, although it could just be some work on the racecourse.”
