Buick strikes on Dingaan
09/06/2007 - 14:55:39Fast-improving apprentice William Buick’s star continued in the ascendancy with a beautifully-timed ride on Dingaan in the Empire Property Handicap at Goodwood.
After a slow start, Buick switched the Andrew Balding-trained 20-1 shot across the track to come with a late flourish.
He just nicked this trial for Royal Ascot’s Wokingham Handicap by a head and the same from the flying Bentong and Forest Dane.
It was a first Goodwood success for Buick, who said: “It’s always nice to ride a winner at a big track.
“He’s a talented horse but he’s quite funny and I just needed to get him a clear run and not hit the front too soon.”
Bentong was cut to 16-1 for the Wokingham by William Hill and Paddy Power. He is still available at 25s with Coral.
