Fianna Fáil considers options after collapse of talks

09/06/2007 - 08:40:07
Fianna Fáil will consider its options over the coming days on forming a government.

Negotiations with the Greens collapsed yesterday after the two sides failed to find agreement on key areas of policy.

It's understood the Taoiseach Bertie Ahern is to make contact with Mary Harney of the PDs on the contents of the Programme for Government.

The most likely option now is to cut a deal with the PD's and independents or with Labour.

Mr Ahern is expected to consult with his officials as the quest continues to find suitable partners to form a working administration by next Thursday.

It's also understood he will hold talks with Mary Harney of the Progressive Democrats.

The Green Party's Trevor Sargent announces that talks with Fianna Fail over the formation of government have broken down.
