Woods closes in

28/01/2007 - 19:43:16
Tiger Woods needed only five holes of the final round to move into a share of the lead at the Buick Invitational in San Diego today.

The defending champion, moving ever closer to a seventh consecutive US Tour victory, resumed two behind tour rookies Andrew Buckle and Brandt Snedeker.

Woods pitched to two feet on the second, hit his 140-yard approach to the fourth to seven feet and was level when Australian Buckle, having also birdied the second, failed to get up and down from sand two holes later.

It was a three-way tie at the top on 11 under as Jeff Quinney, who last week had a hole-in-one on the penultimate hole when battling for the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic, sank a 40-foot eagle putt at the long sixth.

Snedeker, who on Thursday equalled the Torrey Pines North Course record with an 11-under-par 61, was one behind after bogeying the fourth.
