Lens go third after fightback
Lens completed an amazing comeback to snatch a 3-3 draw against St Etienne on Sunday and move up to third in the Ligue 1 table.
The hosts scored twice in the final five minutes against a stunned St Etienne in a game of two halves at the Stade Felix-Bollaert.
Strikes by Batefimbi Gomis and the impressive Marek Heinz (two) gave away side a three-goal lead but Lens did not give in, Seydou Keita pulling a goal back in the 66th minute before further headers at the death from Adama Coulibaly and Keita again earned them a point.
In Sunday’s other match, Auxerre eased their troubles at the wrong end of the table with a welcome three points against Nancy.
Kanga Akale and Thomas Kahlenberg both found the target in the first half to earn Auxerre their seventh win of the season and move them nine points clear of the bottom three.
Leaders Lyon’s poor start to the new year had continued on Saturday as they were held at home by Nice, despite an inspirational performance from new signing Milan Baros.
The Czech striker looked lively on his home debut as he cancelled out Bakari Kone’s 35th-minute opener to earn Lyon a point.
Lille kept their grip on second place with a 1-0 win over Bordeaux, while Marseille now sit fourth after a 2-0 loss to Le Mans.
