City come from behind to clinch fifth-round spot
FT Manchester City 3 Southampton 1
Manchester City recovered from a goal down to clinically dispose of Southampton in an entertaining FA Cup fourth-round tie.
Trailing midway through the opening period when Kenwyne Jones took advantage of Nicky Weaver's blunder, City were level within three minutes thanks to Darius Vassell’s neat strike.
England hopeful Joey Barton calmly put the hosts in front just before the break before United States international DaMarcus Beasley wrapped up the win when he skipped past Saints goalkeeper Kelvin Davis and tapped the ball into an empty net.
Ireland picked out Trabelsi on the right wing with an excellent pass, only for Barton to fire the Tunisian’s cross over.
City did not have to wait long for their third though as Dunne launched a long ball out of his own half that DaMarcus Beasley reached before the advancing Davis, eventually tapping into an empty net.
Ireland brought a fine save out of Davis with a first-time half-volley, then Trabelsi curled a shot just over before, with time ticking down, Blues boss Stuart Pearce introduced France Under-19 international Djamel Abdoun for the latter stages, during which Davis touched Ishmael Miller’s point-blank header onto the crossbar.
