Waterford factory strike averted after crisis talks

Planned strike action at the Bausch and Lomb plant in Waterford has been averted after five hours of crisis talks today.

The Technical Engineering and Electrical Union had planned pickets for 9pm tonight in protest at the suspension without pay of a shop steward at the plant.

But both sides have agreed to refer the matter to the Labour Court and the shop steward has been allowed back to work.

The company has also withdrawn protective notice it served on its 1,500 employees.
