Greens to outline transport plan today
21/01/2007 - 10:56:38The Green Party will outline its transport policy for coming general election later today.
It includes a massive increase in spending on public transport, and an equivalent decrease in funds to build new roads.
The policy will be a major part of the Green Party's demands if it goes into a coalition government following this summer's election.
Transport spokesman Eamonn Ryan says more public transport makes economic and environmental sense.
"We've been saying for the past 25 years that we need to develop out transport system in a better way," he said.
"We think it makes sense - if you look at the actual economic situation, public transport is the only thing that will work. We need to give people a good alternative to get out of their cars and free up the roads for everyone."
