One fifth of drivers killed on way to work are over limit
18/01/2007 - 11:00:00One fifth of motorists who die in road accidents while driving to work in the morning are over the legal alcohol limit, according to the Road Safety Authority.
The authority says the finding emerged from a study it commissioned on motorists who are affected the morning after consuming alcohol.
Spokesman Brian Farrell says the figure highlights the fact that the period between 6am and 12 noon is a "danger zone" on Irish roads for drink-related crashes.
This flies in the face of claims that motorists are being unfairly targeted in the morning by gardaí conducting random breath tests.
