Renegade TDs told to 'get on with jobs'
Two Fine Gael deputies have been told to get on with their jobs by one of the party's most senior members.
Director of Organisation, Phil Hogan has said it is time that John Deasy and Damien English focus their energies on winning the next election and not on attacking party leader Enda Kenny.
Both TDs have been accused of challenging Enda Kenny's leadership in suggesting that the party might need a younger leader if Kenny fails to become Taoiseach after the next general election, although Deputy English has since distanced himself from the affair.
Phil Hogan has described the controversy as a non story and accused the deputies of creating a distraction at a time when Fine Gael and Labour were preparing to form the next government.
"I think it would be better if these particular deputies got on with the business of winning the maximum number of seats for the Fine Gael party in the next general election in order to ensure an essential change of government for the sake of our democracy," he said.
Meanwhile Mr. Kenny's constituency colleague Michael Ring has also criticised deputies Deasy and English.
Deputy Ring has described the challenges as "sabotage".
Mr Ring, who has had disagreements with the party leader in the past, has now come out fully in support of Mr Kenny.
"This debate should not be taking place now, we should be concentrating all our resources on the next general election and getting rid of Fianna Fail and the PDs," he said.
