Almost €6.5bn borrowed in November

Irish people and businesses borrowed almost €6.5bn from banks and lending institutions last month.

This represents the second highest monthly growth rate in private sector credit for 2006.

According to Central Bank figures, €2.1bn was borrowed in mortgages, bringing the total owed by householders to €121bn.

Despite this however, the growth rate of mortgage borrowing fell last month to its lowest level since October 2005.
