Hunt and Sonko booed at Chelsea clash
Hunt and Sonko were predictably booed when Reading's team was read out over the tannoy and the jeering continued until kick-off when the home fans switched their attention to Chelsea's blistering start.
The home side created their first chance with just over a minute on the clock, Geremi and Drogba combining to set up Frank Lampard who fended off Sonko before dragging his shot just wide of the left post.
Shevchenko’s first touch of the game had been abysmal as he sent Carvalho scurrying back to collect a return pass, but he made amends by chasing Bridge’s long ball and squaring to the centre.
However, the chance was gone when Michael Ballack let the ball roll to Drogba and Ivar Ingimarsson intercepted in the nick of time.
Chelsea remained on the offensive with Shevchenko charging into the box and feeding Drogba who tested Reading keeper Marcus Hahnemann from close range.
Kalou then blazed a fine chance high after doing all the hard work in beating Nicky Shorey and Ingimarsson.
Royals fans had little to cheer about with their team giving ball away too easily and they had Sonko to thank for intercepting a dangerous Bridge cross with Drogba lurking.
The booing started up again when Hunt warmed up along the sideline of the East Stand and a team of stewards moved down to the edge of the pitch as a precautionary measure.
