Crumlin board seeks review of children’s hospital location
27/11/2006 - 07:32:45Crumlin Children's Hospital is reportedly seeking a review of the decision to build the proposed new national children's hospital on the Mater site in north Dublin.
Reports this morning say the board of the hospital has concluded that the site is too small for the new facility and could lead to the fragmentation rather than the centralisation of paediatric services.
The Crumlin board reportedly wants the new hospital to be built on a greenfield site alongside a maternity hospital.
The Health Service Executive opted in favour of the Mater site on the basis of an independent report that recommended it be located alongside an existing teaching hospital.
The facility is designed to replace the three existing children's hospitals in Crumlin, Tallaght and Temple Street.
