24/11/2006 - 19:34:35
A teenage girl today lost her fortnight-long fight for life after being struck with a baseball bat during a night out with friends.

Rebecca Kiely, 15, from Castleknock in Dublin, was caught up in a fight between two men outside St Brigid’s GAA club on the Old Navan Road on November 10.

The third-year student at Castleknock Community College was taken to Beaumont Hospital where she was put on a life-support machine in the intensive care unit.

She died at 3.15pm today, a garda spokeswoman said.

Two men in their forties were charged in connection with the incident at Dublin District Court on Monday. They were remanded in custody to appear again next Monday.

Both, who have addresses in Dublin, were charged with assault causing harm under section three of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act 1997.
