VHI welcomes risk equalisation ruling
Vhi Healthcare has welcomed today's ruling by the High Court, to uphold the Government's decision to trigger the Risk Equalisation scheme with effect from 1st January 2006.
The Court decision ensures that private health insurance is offered at the same price to the young and the old and remains affordable to all who wish to avail of it.
In a statement the Vhi said: "Today's decision effectively safeguards the community rated system of private health insurance in Ireland, which has served Irish people so well over the last 50 years.
"This decision is good news for health consumers generally and will encourage real and vigorous competition in the private health insurance market.
"Vhi's competitors will now be forced by this decision to compete right across the market and become more innovative in terms of cost, product, customer service and provider management.
"Vhi Healthcare confirms its total support for fair competition in the marketplace and welcomes today's very clear High Court decision."
