Knight set for hurdles spin

22/11/2006 - 15:38:13
One Knight is likely to tread an unorthodox path to the Coral Welsh National on December 27.

The Philip Hobbs-trained 10-year-old looked booked for second in the Chepstow marathon won by L’Aventure last season before falling at the last.

Hobbs has revised his line of attack with the talented veteran this term and is set to run him in a handicap hurdle at Newbury on Friday en route to the £100,000 handicap.

Hobbs’ wife Sarah said: “He can take advantage of his hurdles rating which is considerably lower than his chase mark.

“As he is such a big horse, standing over 17 hands, we thought it would not be a bad idea to give him a run round at Newbury and make the Welsh National his first run of the season over fences.”

Parsons Legacy is set to represent Hobbs in Saturday’s Hennessy Cognac Gold Cup but connections are concerned about the forecast heavy rain.

“The horse is in cracking form but ideally we don’t want the ground to get too soft at Newbury,” Mrs Hobbs explained.
