€18m finger-print technology for Gardaí
22/11/2006 - 14:30:34The garda and immigration services are to receive a new electronic fingerprinting system.
The state-of-the-art technology will cost up to €18m and will be phased in over the next year and a half.
It will replace existing systems in the Garda Technical Bureau, and improve the ability to spot identity fraud.
The new technology will be used for crime detection, border management, security and identity validation generally.
