Aer Lingus ESOT group to conclude ballot on Ryanair bid

22/11/2006 - 08:40:51
Aer Lingus workers who make up the Employee Share Ownership Trust will conclude their ballot today whether or not they will support Ryanair's takeover bid.

With the unions and Government set against Ryanair's attempt to take control of the National airline it is expected that the offer by Michael O'Leary and his team will be rejected today by the ESOT group.

Yesterday, the Ryanair boss sent a letter to Aer Lingus shareholders urging them to accept his bid.

In the letter Mr O'Leary said the €2.80 per share offer for the airline is 'generous', and it will not be increased.

Ryanair last week extended to December 4th the period for Aer Lingus shareholders to accept its bid.

It has offered €1.48bn for the airline, but its takeover bid has already met fierce with opposition from the Government who has insisted that it will not sell its 25% share of Aer Lingus under any circumstances.
