Trade levels boost for Dublin Port Company
Dublin Port Company today released figures for trade levels at Dublin Port for three months up to September this year and cruise liner numbers for 2006, signalling their most successful cruise season to date.
Growth in throughput was very strong, totalling 7.5 million tonnes. This represents an 11.9% increase on the same period last year.
Much of the growth recorded is in the transit of consumer goods through the unitised (Lift-on Lift-off and Roll-on Roll-off) sector, which accounts for three quarters of total throughput.
Chief executive of Dublin Port Company, Enda Connellan said: “Dublin Port continues to meet the needs of the Irish businesses by facilitating two-thirds of containerised trade to and from Ireland.
"Dublin Port remains the port of choice for importers and exporters as it is the most efficient way of accessing the market. This is evident by the fact that 50% of all goods arriving at Dublin Port remain within the M50 area.”
