Month-on-month trade down

Seasonally-adjusted external trade decreased in September relative to August 2006, according to figures released today by the Central Statistics Office.

Exports dropped by 9% and imports by 3%. In contrast and relative to July 2006, August had increased by 4% and 6% for exports and imports respectively.

On an unadjusted basis, the value of exports in September 2006 was €7.8bn, down €170m (-2%) on September 2005, while the value of imports was €4.8bn, up €52m (+1%).

However, exports were up 3% in the January-to-August period this year, while imports were up 6%.

The value of exports in August 2006 was €7.1bn up €443m (+7%) on August 2005, while the value of imports was €4.7bn, up €366m (+8%).
