Shels come from behind to clinch title
Shelbourne 2 Bohemians 1
Shelbourne came from behind to clinch a deserved third eircom Premier Division title in four years on an emotional night at Tolka Park.
Bohs took a shock lead in bizarre fashion on 16 minutes. Steve Williams appeared to have collected Stephen Caffrey’s weak header, but dropped the ball over the line under pressure from the inrushing Barry Ferguson.
But Shels hit back to level on 24 minutes. Barry Ryan’s shot was handled by John Paul Kelly and Stuart Byrne blasted home from the spot for his sixth goal of the season.
The hardworking Glen Crowe then put Shels in front on 29 minutes to complete the comeback, losing Barry Ferguson to shoot home strike partner Jason Byrne’s low cross.
Stuart Byrne headed against a post in the second half as Shels should have extended their winning margin.
The only sour note on the night for Shels was the 88th minute dismissal of substitute Richie baker for a bad challenge on Bohs' defender Conor Powell.
