Poverty risk among elderly people fell sharply last year
16/11/2006 - 13:34:23The proportion of elderly people at risk of poverty has fallen significantly in recent years, according to CSO figures out today.
The Central Statistics Office says 20% of people over the age of 65 were at risk of poverty in 2005, compared to 27% the previous year.
Elsewhere, it also says lone parents have the highest deprivation levels, while smokers are at a higher risk of poverty than the rest of the population.
