Book of Estimates expected to reveal €2.5bn Budget surplus

The Minister for Finance is due to announce next year's spending plans for all Government departments when the Book of Estimates is published later today.

A €2.5bn Budget surplus is expected to be revealed, due mainly to massive returns from stamp duty on property and corporation tax.

The extra money is expected to target health, education and crime in particular.

Enterprise Minister Micheál Martin says his department will also get a spending increase, with a package intended to promote employment growth and safeguard the rights of all workers.
