Netherlands striker Rafael van der Vaart denied England a morale-boosting win with a late equaliser in the friendly international in Amsterdam.
Wayne Rooney’s first England goal for 12 months looked to have brought a smile back to the face of Steve McClaren after his side’s woeful showing in Croatia last month.
But with only four minutes remaining, Van der Vaart netted from close range after England failed to deal with Arjen Robben’s long throw.
