Mighty Man to reappear at Ascot
Henry Daly has reported that leading stayer Mighty Man is set to reappear in Saturday’s Grade Two Coral Ascot Hurdle.
After a string of meritorious performances at a high level last season, he finally gained his reward in the Liverpool Hurdle at the Grand National meeting in April.
He turned the tables on World Hurdle winner My Way De Solzen in no uncertain terms that day and is currently 6-1 second favourite with Coral for this year’s Cheltenham event, behind 7-4 market-leader Black Jack Ketchum.
Saturday’s race is run over just short of two and a half miles and Daly admits it may be on the sharp side for his charge.
“All things being equal, and if we get a good clear run with him, he will run this weekend,” said Daly.
“We won’t find out how he will handle the shorter distance until we have run him over it and I think it probably will be a bit short for him.
“We have the option of waiting another week for Newbury (VC Casino.com Long Distance Hurdle,) with him but the ground turning to soft could rather alarm me.
“Then there isn’t anything suitable for another month after that so I thought we’d take this opportunity with him,” Daly told At The Races.
“He is a great horse to train. He keeps his form very well.
“We managed to ride him very differently at Aintree which I think helped him enormously. It has been fairly well documented that his pilot has got in to a muddle once or twice but we decided to ride him closer to the pace and it seemed to be the making of him.”
