Port tunnel to open next month
15/11/2006 - 08:50:25Ireland’s biggest ever engineering feat, the Dublin Port Tunnel, will open to traffic on December 20, it was confirmed today.
Over two years behind schedule and at a cost of €752m, the 4.5-kilometre tolled underpass will take lorries, trucks and other traffic straight from the docklands to motorways in the north of the city.
It is expected to take about 9,000 heavy goods vehicles a day from Dublin’s congested quays.
A spokeswoman for Dublin City Council said the first vehicles will be allowed through on December 20.
