McIntosh scoops October award

09/11/2006 - 19:54:48
Antrim hurler Johnny McIntosh has scooped the Tennent's Ulster GAA Writer Monthly Merit award for October.

The Glenariffe forward played through the pain barrier last month - he was struggling with a Gilmore's groin injury - and has been rewarded for his bravery.

The man known simply as 'Tosh' said: "There were too many important matches for me to get treatment in hospital. But now that the season is ended I am pushing to get in for an operation."

The 28-year-old attacker was right on the mark as he bagged 1-7 for Antrim in their Ulster SHC final win over New York, and he also struck 0-10 for Ulster in their M Donnelly Interprovincial semi-final against Leinster.

McIntosh already has an enviable collection of senior honours - six Ulster SHC medals, three Ulster U-21 awards, an Ulster minor medal and a Christy Ring Cup medal.

He wins a £100 voucher from Tennent's Ireland, an engraved Belleek China vase, specially made silver cuff links from Gareth Mallon Omeath and training gear, compliments of Pro*Star Sports.

He will also be a guest at the Ulster GAA Writers' banquet, which will be held at Bundoran's Great Northern Hotel next Friday.
