McCullough urges Harrison to make decision

09/11/2006 - 08:56:21
Former bantamweight world champion Wayne McCullough hopes the latest setback in Scott Harrison’s career can act as a “wake-up call”.

The WBO featherweight title-holder faces the prospect of losing his belt after failing to earn a release from a Spanish prison after an alleged assault in Málaga last month.

Consequently, promoter Frank Warren has been forced to scrap the 29-year-old’s next defence, which was scheduled to take place against Nicky Cook at the ExCel Arena in London on December 9.

After withdrawing from a summer title clash with Gary St Clair due to depression and alcohol problems, Harrison is now facing the possibility of being stripped of his belt.

McCullough, who was beaten by Harrison in March 2003, said: “Scott has been world champion for the last few years now.

“Now, hopefully, the possibility of his belt being taken away from him will act as wake-up call. He may have to start all over again and might not even get another crack at the title.”
