RSA discusses reforms of provisional licence system

09/11/2006 - 16:21:05
The Road Safety Authority has discussed reforms of the provisional driver licence system with the Transport Minister in Dublin today.

It comes after the death of three young men in a crash in Co Mayo last night.

The victims have been named as 20-year-old Aaron Morley, 21-year-old Jonathon Donavan and 24-year-old Patrick Morley.

The RSA is drawing up new rules on exactly what would be required at each stage to be a qualified driver.

Minister Martin Cullen said today the new system must improve driving standards.

“I want it done right, I think it has to be based evidentially.

“I think it has to be based on best practice. And while there are many ideas, we must come up with a system that's credible, that's workable and that really does deliver best practice.”
