Wincanton reports good momentum
Logistics and transport group Wincanton today reported an "excellent result" at its UK and Ireland division following recent contract wins.
The Wiltshire-based group signed a new contract with supermarket group Somerfield in September which is expected to be worth £900m (€1.3bn) in the next five years.
It also works with Tesco, Sainsbury, Argos and Dixons and in April signed a transport contract with Britvic.
Pre-tax profits slipped to £15.1m (€22.4m) for the six months to September 30 from £15.2m (€22.6m) the year before.
In the UK and Ireland, operating profits rose 10% to £20m (€29.7m) while in mainland Europe profits lifted 17% to £356.7m (€529.9m).
Chairman David Malpas said: "We expect to see the encouraging momentum of our UK and Ireland businesses continue into the second half, supplemented by initial contributions from our recent acquisitions."
