Annual inflation rate down slightly to 3.9% in October

The annual rate of inflation fell slightly to 3.9% last month, according to the latest figures from the Central Statistics Office.

The CSO says average prices remained static during the month, compared to a 0.1% rise in October of last year.

This brought the annual rate of increase down from 4% in September to 3.9% in October.

The main changes over the year have been an 18.4% rise in the cost of housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels, a 5.9% increase in education costs and a 4.3% rise in health costs.

The prices charged by restaurants and hotels are also up 4.1%, while the cost of clothing and footwear is down 1.7% and the price of furnishings, household equipment and routine maintenance is down 1.5%.
