Public’s help sought in investigation into sex assault
Gardai appealed for witnesses today after a young woman was sexually assaulted in a stairwell of an apartment block in Dublin’s Parnell Street.
The woman, who was in her early 20s, was attacked by three men after meeting one of the men earlier in the city centre.
Officers are seeking the public’s help after the woman suffered the serious sexual assault at Kings Court Apartments at Parnell Street between 2am and 3am last Saturday, November 4.
A Garda spokesman said the woman left her friends at 2am and began walking up O’Connell Street when she was approached by a man at the junction with Cathal Brugha Street.
The spokesman said: “He walked with her across the road to the AIB bank where he grabbed her and forced her to walk up Parnell Street towards Capel Street and to the apartment complex in Parnell Street where the assault took place on the stairwell.”
Detectives said the victim had called out to several people who were in the area for assistance.
As part of investigations gardaí routinely review footage gathered by Garda CCTV cameras in the O’Connell Street area as well as that gathered by Dublin city traders.
Store Street gardaí appealed to anyone who was in the O’Connell Street area or on Parnell Street between 2am and 3am on November 4 to contact them.
Detectives also requested residents of the Kings Court Apartment complex on Parnell Street who may have witnessed the attack or have some information to contact them at 01 666 8000 or on the Garda confidential phone on 1800 666 111.
