Doctors say health service must be prioritised in Budget

Doctors are demanding that the Minister for Finance Brian Cowen prioritise the health service in his forthcoming Budget.

In its pre-Budget submission, the Irish Medical Organisation says funds must be provided to tackle the ongoing A&E crisis.

It also wants resources to fund improved care for the elderly and the provision of more medical cards.

Spokesman Fintan Hourihan says the health service needs to be prioritised above all other public services and he hopes Mr Cowen will give due recognition to the detailed arguments being put forward by the IMO.
