50 million journeys taken on LUAS trams since June 2004

The operators of the LUAS tram system in Dublin say 50 million journeys have been taken on the system since it came into operation in June 2004.

More than 80,000 people travel on the LUAS every weekday, a 20% increase on the figures for last year, while the total number of journeys taken in 2006 is expected to be 25 million.

Meanwhile, passenger capacity on the Red Line is due to increase by 40% with a planned 10-metre carriage extension.
