Nobelix shines at Kempton
Nobelix justified odds-on favouritism in grand style by winning the betfredpoker.com Novices’ Hurdle At Kempton.
Tony McCoy had an armchair ride throughout the two-mile test and registered a facile six-length victory from Magnesium, with Liakoura seven lengths further adrift in third.
Nobelix, trained by James Fanshawe and sent off a 4-6 shot, was a little keen going to post, but the champion jockey soon settled the four-year-old.
After making good headway down the back straight, McCoy took up matters coming off the final turn.
The Ruper Hambro-owned grey quickly put matters to bed and casted home in the style of a useful prospect.
McCoy joked: “He (Fanshawe) is wasting his time training Flat horses – but I think he put me on two losers last year!
“This one is an intelligent little horse and it makes my job easier when they all win like that.”
Fanshawe added: “I’ve been dying to get Mr Hambro to go jumping with him.
“He had been hard to place after being put up 10lb for a Haydock win (in July) and he’s really enjoyed schooling at home.
“I think he enjoyed that.”
