Nayo set for Gold run
Evan Williams believes Nayodabayo has earned the right to run in the Paddy Power Gold Cup at Cheltenham on Saturday.
The Vale of Glamorgan trainer decided to pitch his progressive six-year-old in against classy and seasoned campaigners in the valuable handicap chase over an extended two and a half miles.
Nayodabayo has a 3lb penalty – bringing his weight up to 10st 6lb – for beating Stance by 19 lengths at Sandown last Saturday on his second start since returning from a five month-break.
“I know it’s probably madness but I think we’ll have a go,” sid Williams.
“We are now in a position where we have to run in races like this. We are going to have a go and see what happens.
“He has improved a hell of a lot and we wouldn’t be thinking of the Paddy Power if he hadn’t done.
“His jumping was so good last time and if you’ve got a featherweight and you can jump you’ve got yourself half a chance.”
Nayodabayo is 33-1 with the sponsors to land the Cheltenham prize on the second day of the Open meeting.
