Primary teachers seek significant increase in budget funding

Primary teachers are seeking increased funding to meet school costs and resources to help reduce class sizes in this year's budget.

In its pre-budget submission, the Irish National Teachers Organisation says many schools won't be able to pay for heating, electricity, water and waste charges without a significant increase in funds.

It also says resources to help reduce class sizes are long overdue.

INTO's other budget demands include a school-meals service for children in disadvantaged areas and a classroom assistant for every infant class.
