South Korea finds abnormal radioactivity levels
25/10/2006 - 10:58:12South Korea’s government has detected abnormal radiation in the country after North Korea’s nuclear test earlier this month, Yonhap news agency reported today.
The Science and Technology Ministry found xenon – an inert gas released when there is a nuclear explosion – in the air in South Korea, the report said, without giving any more details.
The finding corroborates a US government announcement that North Korea did conduct a nuclear test.
The office of the US Director of National Intelligence said last week that air sample analysis detecting radioactive debris “confirms that North Korea conducted an underground nuclear explosion” on October 9.
