Tourism numbers up
25/10/2006 - 11:48:14The number of trips to Ireland increased by 50,400 to 928,800 in August from 878,400 in August 2005, the Central Statistics Office said today.
There were 729,500 overseas trips by Irish residents in August 2006 compared with 642,800 in August 2005, an increase of 86,700.
The breakdown of visitors to Ireland by area of residence, compared with August 2005, shows the number of visitors from the UK in August decreased by 24,600.
The number of visitors from other European countries increased by 52,100 in August.
Trips to Ireland from the US grew by 22,400 while the number of visitors from other Areas grew by 400.
