Cavan nurses to mount protest at staff shortage
25/10/2006 - 08:34:03Nurses at Cavan General Hospital are due to mount industrial action today as part of a dispute over a shortage of clerical staff.
The Irish Nurses Organisation says the Health Service Executive has failed to implement a Labour Court recommendation from last year which called for the hiring of eight such staff to ensure nurses can dedicate their time solely to nursing duties.
Around 50 staff members from at least eight departments at Cavan Hospital are due to take part in a lunchtime protest today before commencing a work-to-rule in the afternoon.
The INO has insisted that the action is a last resort prompted by the HSE's decision to ignore a number of third-party recommendations over the past year.
